The State Mental Health Authority has been Constituted for the Care of Mental Patients

Why In News?
On July 3, 2023, Shubhra Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health Department of Rajasthan, said that in compliance with the Mental Health Care Act-2017 and the State Mental Health Authority Rules-2018 for the care of mental patients in the state, the State Mental Health Authority has been constituted. A gazette notification has also been issued for this.
Key Points:
- In the Mental Health Authority, Additional Chief Secretary has been designated as Chairman, Mission Director National Health Mission as Chief Executive Officer and Director Public Health as Member Secretary. Apart from these, there will be ex-officio and non-official members in this authority.
- The Additional Chief Secretary informed that the state mental health related rules and bye-laws will be made soon by organizing a meeting of the Mental Health Authority. Along with this, mental health boards will also be constituted.
- He said that the rules related to the rights of mental patients will also be decided in the meeting.
