According to information received from the media on 19 April 2023, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan has returned the bill seeking to increase reservation for socially and educationally backward classes in the state.
Key Points
- It is known that this bill proposes to increase the OBC quota from 14% to 27%, ST quota from 26% to 28% and SC quota from 10% to 12%.
- In such a situation, if this bill is passed, the total reservation in government jobs will be 77 percent with the inclusion of 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections in the state.
- Giving information in this matter, the official of the Governor's office said that this bill has been returned on the basis of legal opinion from the Attorney General of India. He also said that the previous Governor of Jharkhand, Ramesh Bais, had sent this bill to the Attorney General, who has said that the Supreme Court's decisions on reservation have not been taken into account in the bill.
