- On August 30, 2021, Sumit Antil of Sonipat, Haryana created history by winning the gold medal in Javelin Throw at the Tokyo Paralympics.
Key Points
- In the men's javelin throw, Sumit broke three world records one after the other in the F64 category. First, he set a world record by throwing a javelin from a distance of 66.95 meters. Then in his second attempt, he improved his own world record with a score of 68.08 meters. In the fifth attempt, he made a world record by throwing a javelin throw from a distance of 68.55 meters and won the gold medal.
- It is worth mentioning that in 2015, Sumit, who lost one leg in a road accident, was guided by coach Virendra Dhankhar. In 2018, Sumit got 5th rank in the Asian Championship. The next year in 2019, he won a silver medal at the World Championships. Sumit won the gold medal in the National Games held in the same year.
