Why in News
- On December 15, 2021, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren launched the 'SAHAY' (Sports Action Towards Harnessing Aspiration of Youths) scheme from Kolhan's Dhara with an aim to promote sports and sports talent.
Key Points
- This scheme will be operated by the Sports Department. The objective of the scheme is to motivate the youth of Naxal affected areas towards a positive life by giving them an identity through sports.
- Under the scheme, in the first phase, 72,000 youths of 14 to 19 years of Naxal-affected Chaibasa, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Khunti, Gumla and Simdega districts will get an opportunity to show their skills in the field of sports.
- Talented youth in sports up to Panchayat, Ward, Block and District level will get an opportunity to show their skills in other sports including hockey, football, volleyball, athletics.
- In the competitions organized under the scheme, winners and runners-up at the district and state level will also be honored by giving incentives.
- On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that sports nurseries would be set up in Naxal affected areas so that Jharkhand's identity could be established apart from minerals. Sports will be organized at every level.
