On February 18, 2022, for the first time at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (PGI) of Medical Science Lucknow, doctors gave new life to two children by performing a complex operation with robots.

  • PGI, Lucknow has become the first institute in the state to achieve the feat of operation of children through robots. Both the girls were operated by the doctors of PGI, Lucknow under the leadership of Dr. Ravi Kanojia, Pediatric Surgeon of Chandigarh PGI. The health of both the children is improving.
  • According to Dr. Basant Kumar, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, PGI Lucknow, the first operation took one hour and the second one and a half hours. The cost of each child's operation is about one lakh rupees.
  • A three-and-a-half year old resident of Sonbhadra district was suffering from a congenital disease called 'Lump in the gallbladder'. This disease is called colidocal cyst in medical science. Because of this, the bile ducts were bloated and there was pain in the stomach. Robotically operated the gall sac was removed and the duct was attached to the intestine.
  • The second operation was for a blockage in the esophagus and stomach of a five-year-old girl from Jhansi, causing vomiting and belching. In medical science, this disease is called Echligia Cardia. After the operation this problem has been resolved.
  • Dr. Basant said that the robotic operation is accurate and safe. It has less risk. With bleeding and pain patients need not stay more in the hospital.
  • It is worth Mentioning that in only five institutions in the country, children's operations are being done with robots.
