Pistol, Revolver-cartridge to be made in Aligarh with American technology

Why in News?

According to information received from the media on July 19, 2023, the production of pistols, revolvers and cartridges will start this year with the technology of American company Smith & Wesson in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor Aligarh Node. For this, India's Veriwin Defense Company has signed an agreement with American arms manufacturer Smith & Wesson.

Key Points:

• In the Defense Corridor under construction at Andla in Khair Tehsil of Aligarh, the company will launch weapons in the market for the Army, Police and private individuals in December 2023. At the Aligarh node, the company has started chain manufacturing for the sale of pistols, and revolvers.
• Veriwin Defense will be the 1st company to start production of weapons at the Aligarh node. The company has completed more than 90% construction of the factory. Stores have been prepared for keeping explosive materials from godowns. The local administration has also sought no objection from the people regarding this. The licenses for pistols, revolvers and cartridges have been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
• The head office of Veriwin Defense Private Limited is located in Singapore.
• In a joint agreement with American company Smith & Wesson, Veriwin Defense Company will market a variety of pistols and revolvers for the military, police and private individuals. The company has released the model and specifications of the pistol and revolver. The price will also be more than Rs 1.70 lakh. Although now the company will fix the pricing only after construction, but the primary rates have been fixed.
• Veriwin Defence Private Limited company will also work on hardware units in Aligarh. This is the anchor entity investing in the defence corridor. Small-scale industries will benefit from this. Especially manufacturers doing defence products earlier will get work.
• Small parts will be required in other defence equipment including pistols, cartridges, and revolvers, which will be taken from auxiliary units.
• It is worth mentioning that Veriwin has invested Rs 85 crore in Aligarh and Rs 127 crore in the Jhansi node. In Aligarh, 4 acres of land have been taken from UPDA.
• Veriwin Defense Company will make 2 lakh cartridges every month in Aligarh. Although the production will depend on the order, but the capacity is to manufacture 2 lakhs.
• 9 mm for police and army, 32, 45 and 380 mm cartridges will be made for civil. The company will manufacture more than 500 weapons in a month. The manufacture of weapons will also depend on the order. The company has a capacity of 500 weapons a month.
• Director Veriwin Defense Private Limited, Mohit Sharma said that Veriwin Defense Company has been working in the field of arms manufacturing for 40 years.
