Meenakari, also known as enamelling, is the art of decorating a metal surface by mixing minerals. Meenakari was brought to India by the Mughals.
This process is often used on Kundan. Under this, between the stone and the mount on one side of the article, there is a gold layer inlay of precious gems, while on the other side the shiny layer is plated with the Meena technique.
The Meenakari of Varanasi is part of its rich cultural heritage. It was given a GI Tag in the year 2015.
