On 5 February 2022, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced at the annual meeting of Bihar College of Engineering (BCE)-NIT Alumni Committee that one-third of the seats in medical and engineering colleges in the state will be reserved for girls from the new session 2023.

- Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said at least one-third of the seats in engineering and medical studies have been reserved for girls.
- He said that in the year 2013 to women in the recruitment of Bihar Police, 35 percent reservation was given. There are not as many women in the police in Bihar as in other states. Apart from this, 35 percent reservation has been given to women in all government services of Bihar.
- The Chief Minister said that engineering colleges are being set up in every district for the expansion of NIT Patna. 125 acres of land has been given in Bihta. Another 25-acre plot lying vacant adjacent to the under-construction Bihta campus will be given.
- The Chief Minister said that in 2004, the then Central Government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee had given the status of NIT to Bihar College of Engineering. The Bihar College of Engineering was renamed as BCE-NIT by the Bihar government.
