Why In News?
- On August 25, 2022, the Ministry of Education, Government of India released the final list of names of 46 teachers from different states of the country selected for the National Teacher Award 2022. It also includes the names of two teachers from Bihar.

- President Draupadi Murmu will present the National Award for the year 2022 to the selected teachers on the occasion of Teacher's Day on September 5, 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. As an award, a sum of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal will be given to the teachers.
- Two teachers from Bihar selected for the National Teacher Award given by the Ministry of Education, Government of India on Teachers' Day are Nishi Kumari, a teacher of Mahadev Higher Secondary School Khushrupur, Patna and Sourav Suman, a teacher of Lalit Narayan Laxmi Narayan Project Girls High School Triveniganj, Supaul.
- It is known that the names of six teachers from Bihar were sent by the state government for the National Teacher Award.
- On the occasion of Teachers' Day, the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education organizes a national function every year on September 5, in which national awards are given to the best teachers of the country.
- The selection of teachers for the awards is done in a transparent manner through an online three-tier selection process.
- The objective of conferring the National Awards to teachers is to highlight the unique contribution of teachers of the country and to honour such teachers who have not only improved the quality of school education with their commitment and hard work, but have also enriched the lives of their students.
