Mayor Election in Jharkhand | 22 Jun 2022
Why in News?
- On June 21, 2022, in the meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the proposal of the Urban Development Department was approved, under which the election of the mayor in Jharkhand would be on the basis of non-party, not on the basis of party.
Key Points
- In the meeting, the state cabinet approved 43 proposals. However, due to the model code of conduct in force in view of the Mandar by-election, there was no press conference on the decisions of the Cabinet.
- But sources said that the most important proposal has come from the Urban Development Department, which has been approved. At the same time, there will be no election of deputy mayor, but the councillors of the municipal corporation and municipal bodies will together elect the deputy mayor. The approval of the cabinet has been received on the rules brought in this regard.
- In the meeting, the police appointment rules were also amended, under which now the candidates will have to complete the race first, then only they will have a written test.
