Madhya Pradesh tops in Brucella vaccination

Why In News?
On April 6, 2022, Madhya Pradesh Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Prem Singh Patel informed that Madhya Pradesh is at first place in the whole country in Brucella vaccination program run under National Animal Disease Control Program.
Key Points
- Under the National Animal Disease Control Program, Brucella vaccination program was run in the state from January 1 to March 31, 2022. In this, 4 to 8 months old cow-buffalo calves were vaccinated. Madhya Pradesh has registered 17 lakh 41 thousand 970 vaccination information on the ENOF portal, which is the highest in the nation.
- Apart from this, UID tags have been installed on 2 crore 76 lakh 63 thousand 968 bovine cattle in the state. Their registration has also been done on the eNOF portal. This number is also the highest in the country.
- It is noteworthy that under the National Animal Disease Control Program in the country, Brucella vaccination program is being implemented in all the states.
- Brucellosis disease is a reproductive disease of buffalo cattle, caused by the bacterium Brucellosis abortus. Symptoms include fever, late pregnancy abortion, sterility, heat delay, loss of calves due to interruption of lactation, and decreased milk production.
- By vaccinating 4 to 8 month old cow-buffalo calves once in their lifetime, they can be protected from Brucellosis disease. The disease also spreads from animals to humans. The effect of this disease can cause fertility problems in both men and women. In the absence of any treatment, this disease can be prevented only by vaccination.
