- On March 16, 2022, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria released the book 'Locust Control in Rajasthan' at Pant Krishi Bhawan.
Key Points
- In this book, information has been given about the steps and innovations taken by the Agriculture Department for control during the locust attack on crops in the year 2019 and 2020 in Rajasthan.
- Along with this, detailed technical information related to locusts and measures to be taken for control have been told in the book.
- It is noteworthy that swarms of immature pink locusts and adult yellow locusts are active in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Dausa and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan state and Jhansi and Mahoba districts of Uttar Pradesh.
- Locust control campaign was carried out in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. This campaign was started from Rajasthan on 11th April, 2020.
- Locust control campaign was carried out by Local Circle Offices (LCOs) in July, 2020 at 25 places in 6 districts of Rajasthan – Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagaur and Dausa and two places in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh.
- In addition, control operations were carried out by the state agriculture departments at 4 places in Jhansi and Mahoba districts of Uttar Pradesh and at 2 places in Bharatpur in Rajasthan to eliminate small groups of locusts.
- The Government of India's Locust Warning Organization (LWO) and ten Locust Circle Offices (LCOs) are located in Rajasthan (Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Phalodi, Barmer, Jalore, Churu, Nagaur, Suratgarh) and Gujarat (Palanpur and Bhuj), mainly in Rajasthan. and 2 lakh sq km of Gujarat. Locust survey and control in the scheduled desert area.
