Why In News?

The result of the Grand Finale of Jharkhand School Innovation Challenge-2023 organized by IIT ISM, Dhanbad, Jharkhand on September 9, 2023 has been released, in which Loyola School of East Singhbhum became the state champion.

  • It is known that plastic bottles thrown in the garbage have always been a matter of concern for environmentalists. They are always looking for ways to manage it properly. In this direction, the team of Loyola School of East Singhbhum has given a creative solution to this problem.
  • Sagar Kumar and Sankalp Kumar, students of Loyola School, East Singhbhum, have developed a technology to convert used and waste plastic into useful material.
  • A team of students from Loyola School, Jamshedpur has developed a 3D printer that can make useful items from plastic bottles thrown in the garbage. This 3D printer first cuts plastic bottles with the help of a machine and turns them into fine fibers, then molds this fiber and makes useful items from the 3D printer. This project is a creative way of waste management.
  • IIT ISM's Naresh Vashishtha Center for Innovation and Tinkering (NVCTI) will assist in the marketing of this product.
  • In the competition, the team of Mahendra Muni Saraswati Vidya Mandir of Madhupur in Deoghar district stood second and the team of Hill Top School of Jamshedpur stood third.
  • Along with this, consolation prizes were given to the teams of DBMS English School, Jamshedpur and SDSM School, Jamshedpur, which stood fourth and fifth respectively.
  • Teams from 10 schools from across the state had reached the grand finale. Of the five best ideas awarded, four are teams from Jamshedpur schools.
  • Chief guest and Vice Chancellor of Jharkhand Technical University, Prof. (Dr.) DK Singh honored the winning team with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy.
  • The team of Mahendra Muni Saraswati Vidya Mandir (Aman Kumar, Anshu Kumar and Roshan Kumar) has together developed a firefighter drone. This drone is capable of automatically picking up water from a nearby water source and spraying it on the fire.
  • Aman Kumar said that the idea of developing it came to him because of the fire that broke out in a school in Deoghar four-five months ago. All three started working together on this project about two months ago. The entire cost of developing this drone is Rs 14 thousand. 2200 mAh battery has been used in it. It supplies power to the drone.
  • The team (Aarush Kumar, Darshil Tripathi and Siddharth Singh) from Hill Top Public School, Jamshedpur has developed the Khet Rakshak App to help farmers. This app will tell in time when locusts are going to attack the crops in the fields. With this, farmers can stop locust attacks by using pesticides in their fields in time.
  • Also, this app is capable of identifying diseases occurring in crops. After this, farmers can take measures to protect their crops. This app will provide updated status of fields to farmers every five minutes through SMS along with WhatsApp.
