Why is News?
On August 28, 2023, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved a proposal to increase the minimum wage rates by Rs 26 per day for each category, taking an important decision to give economic and social support to the workers.
Key Points:
- After the approval of the Chief Minister, now the unskilled worker will get Rs 285 per day or Rs 7410 per month instead of Rs 259, the semi-skilled worker will get Rs 297 per day or Rs 7722 per month instead of Rs 271.
- Apart from this, skilled workers will get wages of Rs 309 per day or Rs 8034 per month instead of Rs 283 and highly skilled workers will get Rs 359 per day or Rs 9334 per month instead of Rs 333.
- Keeping in view the economic interest of workers and labourers, the revised rates have been made effective from January 1, 2023.
- It is to be noted that under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, a proposal was sent to the Finance Department by the Labour Department to increase the minimum wage rates by Rs 26 per day in accordance with the 687-point increase in the Consumer Price Index from July, 2021 to December, 2022 in 56 employments.
- The last hike in minimum wage rates at Rs 7 per day was implemented from July 1, 2021.
