Haryana's 'Reshma' : Largest Milk Producing Buffalo in India

Why in News

  • The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has given a certificate 'Reshma buffalo' of Murrah breed (from Budha Kheda village in Kaithal, Haryana) for producing 33.8 liters milk. With this Reshma has become the largest milk producing buffalo in the whole of India.

Key Points

  • When Reshma gave birth to the child for the first time, she produced 19-20 liters of milk. The second time she produced 30 liters of milk. When Reshma became a mother for the third time, she set a new record with 33.8 liters of milk.
  • The team of many doctors saw Reshma milking 7 times, after which she became the highest milking buffalo in India. With the certificate of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Reshma has come in the number one category of improved variety. Its milk fat quality is 9.31 out of 10.
  • Reshma has also won first prize in a cattle fair organized by Dairy Farming Association with 31.213 liters of milk. Apart from this, Reshma has won many more awards.
  • It is noteworthy that Naresh and Rajesh Beniwal, the owner of Murrah breed buffalo 'Sultan', that is famous in the whole country, are also the owners of Reshma. Sultan had been the national winner in the 2013 National Animal Beauty Competition in Jhajjar, Karnal and Hisar.
  • The Sultan used to give 30 thousand semen doses in a year, which were sold for lakhs of rupees. Sultan died in September 2021.
