On February 4, 2022, the ashes of freedom fighter Lagur Nagesia were cremated after 109 years at Samri in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh.
Key Points
- Lagur Nagesia of Kusmi block of Rajendrapur in Balrampur district, along with Bigud (Bigu Bania) and Thithir Oraon, killed many people working for the British in the year 1913.
- After this incident, Thithir Oraon was killed by the cavalry of the British Army and Bigur and Lagur were put to death in hot oil.
- Of these, the skeleton of Lagur Nagesia was named after the teaching of science students at the then Edward School (the present Multipurpose School) of Ambikapur, which was kept there till now.
- The story of freedom fighter Lagur-Bigur is still famous in Surguja region as Lagur farmer and Bigur Bania.
