'Drone Expo-2022' Held in Jaipur Under 'iStart Rajasthan'

Why in News?

On June 16, 2022, 'Drone Expo-2022' was organized at Techno Hub, Jhalana Institutional Area under 'iStart Rajasthan' of the Department of Information Technology and Communications, in which more than 50 drone manufacturers showcased the capabilities of their drones.

Key Points

  • While one of the drone manufacturers demonstrated to be a lifesaver of drones in flood or under-sea emergencies, someone showed the capabilities of the drone to be helpful in irrigation and farming by showing aerobatics in the sky.
  • According to the chief minister's budget announcement, the state government is planning to buy 1,000 drones for various departments this year.
  • Akhil Arora, Principal Secretary, Department of Information Technology and Communications, inspected the drone exhibition and directed the departmental officers to ensure the use of drones.
  • Commissioner Sandesh Nayak underlined the importance of drone technology for farmers and said that drones can not only help the cultivators in irrigation and pesticide spraying, but will also help the agriculture department in surveying the losses and losses due to adverse weather and conditions.
  • He said drones can help the police department, water resources department, wildlife and other departments in surveillance and security.
  • It may be mentioned that 'iStart Rajasthan' is the flagship scheme of the state government under the Department of Information Technology to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the state, where more than 1700 startups are currently registered and 200 startups are incubated. More than 300 startups have been provided financial assistance by the state government.
  • The department has partnered with NITI Aayog, HDFC Bank, PHD Chambers of Commerce and FICCI FLO, ICICI Bank, Amazon (AWS) to expand the startup ecosystem in the state.
