Divyangjan Rights Act Implemented in the State

Why in News
- On August 13, 2021, the state government issued a circular and implemented the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 to provide equal opportunities to the differently-abled in the state.
Key Points
- Under this act, provision has been made by the state government to provide equal opportunities to persons with disabilities, to utilize the potential of persons with disabilities by providing a suitable environment, not to discriminate against persons with disabilities on the basis of disability, etc. Similarly, the provision that they should not be deprived of their personal liberty on the basis of disability is also included in the Act.
- The State Government has taken necessary steps to ensure the availability of proper accommodation to persons with disabilities, measures and provisions have been made to protect persons with disabilities from torture, inhuman, degrading treatment.
- According to the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, all the departments, corporations, boards, and commissions will ensure its compliance. If the Act is not followed by the department, corporation, board, and commission, then there is a provision to take necessary action against the concerned body as per rules.
