Why in News?

In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on June 28, 2023, a subsidy of more than Rs 24,000 crore was approved for power distribution companies along with many other important items.

Key Points:

• Approval was given to construct 33 well-equipped schools in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 1335.20 crore. In the first phase of the CM RISE scheme, 275 schools are being developed by the School Education Department.
• In lieu of the subsidy approved by the Cabinet for the domestic consumers of the state under the 'Atal Griha Jyoti Yojana' for the domestic consumers of the state and subsidy to various consumer categories, a subsidy of Rs 24,196.47 crore was approved to the power distribution companies in different categories.
• The Cabinet approved an amount of Rs 1700 crore for two years (financial year 2023-24 and 2024-25) for the fourth phase of the 'Chief Minister Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme' for infrastructure development in all urban bodies of the state.
• The Cabinet has given in-principle approval for setting up of new medical colleges with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats in Khargone, Dhar, Bhind, Balaghat, Tikamgarh and Sidhi districts.
• In addition to the 100 kitchen centres established earlier in the 'Deendayal Rasoi Yojana', 20 new permanent kitchen centres and a total of 25 kitchens will be opened in 16 municipal corporations, Pithampur and Mandideep to help such people who cannot reach the permanent kitchen centres. Thus, the decision has been taken by the Council of Ministers to open a total of 45 new kitchen centres and to provide food in the kitchen at the rate of only Rs. 5 per person.
• The Cabinet decided to provide exemption on payment of destitute fee along with exemption of market fee on procurement of notified agricultural produce from the farmers of the state at minimum support price under the 'Price Support Scheme' of the Government of India by the central / state government institutions. Also, in the Price Support Scheme, exemption of destitute duty has been provided on summer Moong and summer Urad procured at minimum support price in the year 2022 (marketing season 2022-23).
• The Cabinet gave administrative approval for the Seeping-Amber Complex Irrigation Project Phase-II at a cost of Rs 190.11 crore. The project will provide irrigation facilities in 13 thousand 457 hectares of irrigated area of 24 villages of Bhairunda tehsil of Sehore district.
• The Cabinet also approved that the 'Madhya Pradesh Police Health Protection Scheme', which was being run in the state since August 19, 2013, will continue continuously for the next five years after March 31, 2019.
• The Cabinet approved the revision of the criteria currently prescribed for financial grant-in-aid on banana crop loss in the table of Appendix-1 (1) (b) of Revenue Book Circular Volume 6 No. 4.
  • For banana crop, approval was given to give the amount of 30 thousand rupees per hectare grant-in-aid for 25 to 33 percent damage, 54 thousand rupees per hectare grant-in-aid for 33 to 50 percent damage and Rs 2 lakh per hectare grant-in-aid in case of more than 50 percent damage.
  • The maximum payable limit of the financial grant-in-aid amount will not exceed Rs.6 lakh instead of Rs.3 lakh.
