Cricket Stadium inaugurated in Thikaria

Why in News?
On 6 April 2023, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Dr. C.P. Joshi's chief hospitality and Rajasthan Cricket Association President Vaibhav Gehlot inaugurated the newly constructed cricket stadium at Thikaria in Banswara district of the state, which has been announced to be named after Haridev Joshi.
Key Points
- This stadium has been constructed from MNREGA and SFC funds, for the maintenance of which an MoU was signed between the district administration and the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
- It is known that many cricket players of Banswara made a different identity in cricket not only in the state but also at the international level. With the construction of this cricket stadium, sports talents here will get a chance to come forward.
- In the program, Minister of State for Sports Ashok Chandna said that the state government has made a tax provision of Rs.500 crores in the budget to encourage sports and sportspersons and is giving 2 percent reservation to sportspersons in government jobs.
- It is notable that Haridev Joshi (1921-1995) has been a popular politician, freedom fighter, and journalist from Rajasthan. Joshi had actively contributed to the media world through journalism for many years in the tribal areas of the state. Later he not only became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan but also held the post of Governor of Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal.
