7% reduction in child stunting cases in Uttarakhand | 09 May 2022

As per the national report of the fifth round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) released by the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya recently, Uttarakhand has registered a significant reduction of 7% in stunting.
Key Point
- In the last four years, the level of stunting among children below the age of 5 years in India has come down from 38 to 36 per cent.
- More stunting was found in children in rural areas (37%) than in urban areas (30%) in 2019-21.
- According to the report, stunting among children has been found to be the lowest in Puducherry (20%) and the highest in Meghalaya (47%) .
- As per the report, a reduction of 7% has been recorded in stunting in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Sikkim , while Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Manipur have registered a decrease of 6% and Chandigarh and Bihar have registered a decrease of 5%.
