Why In News?
- On August 22, 2022, Science and Technology Minister Omprakash Sakhlecha presented Prof. Jagdish Chandra Basu inaugurated the 12th National Science Film Festival of India by lighting the lamp in the auditorium.
Key Points
- It is noteworthy that 71 films will be screened in this film festival organized by Mapcast. The film festival will continue till August 26. Except for the inaugural session, the film will be screened at Ravindra Bhavan on other days.
- Minister Om Prakash Sakhlecha, while inaugurating the festival, announced that in order to make India self-reliant and vishwaguru and to take science to the masses, science films will be screened as a festival in the divisional headquarters of Madhya Pradesh in the next one year.
- The Vigyan Film Festival began with the screening of a documentary on the great Indian scientist P.C Ray. Produced by Vigyan Bharati and the Ministry of Culture, the film focused on Prafulla Chandra Ray, the father of modern chemistry, his extraordinary contribution to academia, employment, poverty alleviation and development of the chemical industry in India before independence.
- The second documentary on oceans focuses on the dangers hovering over and saving the amazing biodiversity of the oceans.
- Prizes worth around Rs 16 lakh will be distributed in various categories for various events to be held during the ceremony.
- Documentary films, short films, animation films, documentary dramas, science fiction are invited in the following competitive categories in the National Science Film Festival and cash prizes of about Rs 16 lakhs are invited in Interface, Fusion Category (Independent Film Makers), Out of Boxes are given by the Government of India in the category-college students, rainbow category (school students) etc.
