    Introduction

    India boasts a rich history of scientific and technological advancements, dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Recognizing the immense value of this heritage, the government has undertaken several initiatives to preserve and promote it.

    Body

    Some of these initiatives are:

    • Archaeological Survey of India (ASI): The ASI is the premier organization for the
    • archaeological research and protection of the cultural heritage of the nation. It is responsible for the maintenance, conservation and preservation of more than 3,600 monuments and sites of national importance, including 20 world heritage properties.
    • The Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD): The scheme aims to develop and beautify pilgrimage sites across the country by facilitating infrastructure development, funding and upgradation of the sites.
    • The National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities (NMMA): It was launched in 2007 to document, conserve and preserve the tangible and intangible heritage of the country. It also aims to create awareness and sensitize people about the rich cultural legacy of India.
    • Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR): ICHR funds research projects on the history of science and technology in India, encouraging scholars to explore and document the contributions of ancient Indian scientists and engineers.
    • National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC): NCSTC plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between ancient Indian knowledge systems (IKS) and the modern world. Their science fairs, exhibitions, and workshops are instrumental in raising awareness about IKS among students and the general public.
    • The Geographical Indication Tag (GI Tag): It identifies products with specific regional origins, promoting local culture and protecting producer and consumer interests. Examples include Darjeeling Tea and Kanchipuram Silk.
    • The National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM): It is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture documents and preserves India's rich manuscript heritage, establishing a national database and promoting research.
    • The Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL): It protects and preserves India’s rich and diverse traditional knowledge by digitizing and providing access to Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Yoga knowledge, fostering global recognition.
