Rajeev Raghuvanshi of Ballia became the New DCGI of the Country
Why In News?
- On February 22, 2023, Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, a resident of Ramnagar of Dokti police station area of Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Drug Controller General of the country.
Key points
- Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi will replace Dr. VG Somani. His term ended on February 15.
- Significantly, there are more than 250 patent medicines in the name of Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi.
- Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi was working on the post of Secretary-cum-Scientist of Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had recommended his name for the post of DCGI last month. Taking cognizance of this, the cabinet committee has passed the order.
- The DCGI is the head post of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), which is responsible for ensuring the supply of quality medicines across the country. It also has the authority to approve new drugs and regulate clinical trials.
