Day 15: Study the following pie-chart carefully and answer the question given below: (50 Marks)

    (a) Assuming that Xiaomi has maintained its market share at the same level from 2015-2016, what is the total number of mobiles sold by Xiaomi in these four years?

    (b) In 2017-2018 the market share of One Plus was 7%, then what is the change in the numbers of mobiles sold by One Plus from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019?

    (c) If Micromax is one of the companies included in ‘others and its sales constitute 40% of ‘others’. Then how many mobiles of Micromax were sold in 2018-2019?

    (d) Assuming that the number of mobiles sold increasing at the same rate in 2019-2020 as it did from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019, and assuming further that Apple maintains its market share, what will be the units sold by Apple in 2019-2020?

    (e) If in 2018-2019 Blackberry sold 10,000 more units and affected the market share of other companies, then what would be its market share?

    (a) Assuming that Xiaomi has maintained its market share at the same level from 2015-2016, what is the total number of mobiles sold by Xiaomi in these four years?

    Answer:

As per the given condition, Xiaomi has maintained its market at the same level from 2015-2016. So,

Total Market Share of Xiaomi in 2019-2020 is 50%, so from 2015-2016 Xiaomi has maintained 50% share.

The numbers of Mobile sold by Xiaomi is -

    2015-2016 (50%) = 50% of 500000 = 250000

    2016-2017 (50%) = 50% of 650000 = 325000

    2017-2018 (50%) = 50% of 700000 = 350000

    2018-2019 (50%) = 50% of 800000 = 400000

    The total number of mobiles sold by Xiaomi in four years = (250000 + 325000 + 350000 + 400000)

    = 1325000

So, the total number of mobiles sold by Xiaomi in four years is 1325000.

    (b) In 2017-2018 the market share of One Plus was 7%, then what is the change in the numbers of mobiles sold by One Plus from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019?

Answer: In 2017-2018, the market share of One Plus was 7%.

Total Mobile sold in 2017-2018 is 700000.

The total number of mobiles sold by One Plus in 2017-2018 = 7% of 700000 = 49000 units.

Total mobiles sold in 2018-2019 is 800000, as per the pie chart the share of One Plus is 18° which is 18/360 × 100 = 5% of total market share.

Total number of mobiles sold by One Plus in 2018-2019 is (5% of 800000) = 40,000.

The change in the number of mobiles sold by One Plus from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019 is 49000 – 40000 = 9000.

So, 9000 mobiles are sold less in 2018-2019 as compared to 2017-2018.

    (c) If Micromax is one of the companies included in ‘others and its sales constitute 40% of ‘others’. Then how many mobiles of Micromax were sold in 2018-2019?

    Answer: The market share of others in 2018-2019 is = 68/360 × 100 = 18.88%

Total number of mobiles sold by others in 2018-2019 = 18.88% of 800000

    = 151040

Micromax’s sales constitute 40% of ‘others’.

So, total number of mobiles sold by Micromax = (40% of 151040)

    = 60416.

    (d) Assuming that the number of mobiles sold increasing at the same rate in 2019-2020 as it did from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019, and assuming further that Apple maintain its market share, what will be the units sold by Apple in 2019-2020?

Answer: Number of mobiles sold increasing at the same rate in 2019-2020.

    The rate of increase of Mobiles sold from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019 = 700000 to 800000 = 100000/year.

As per the condition given in the question, the number of mobiles sold in 2019-2020 is 900000.

    Apple’s share in 2019-2020 is 18/360 × 100 = 5%

    Units sold by apple = (5% of 900000) = 45000.

    (e) If in 2018-2019 Blackberry sold 10,000 more units and affected the market share of other companies, then what would be its market share?

    Answer: The number of mobiles sold by Blackberry in 2018-2019 = 36/360 × 100 = 10%

    (10% of 800000) = 80000

    If it sold 10000 more, then 80000 + 10000 = 90000.

The percentage of market share of Blackberry 2018-2019 if it sold 10,000 more units is = 90,000/800000 × 100 = 11.25%.
