Challenger’s Deep (Mariana Trench). The Challenger Deep is the deepest known point in the Earth's seabed hydrosphere (the oceans), with a depth of 10,902 to 10,929 m. The Challenger Deep is located in the Western Pacific Ocean, at the southern end of the Mariana Trench near the Mariana Islands group. Recently, astronaut and oceanographer Kathy Sullivan, who was the first American woman to walk in space in 1984, became the first woman and the fifth person in history to descend to the deepest known spot in the world’s oceans-Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench.

The United Kingdom. The United Kingdom (U.K.) has recently announced a ‘Jet Zero’ plan to bring down its aviation emissions. The Jet Zero plan aims to bring down greenhouse gas emissions from aviation to make carbon-free transatlantic flights possible within a generation. A group called ‘Jet Zero Council’ has been formed by the U.K. government by bringing together leaders from the aviation sector, environmental groups and government.

Beijing, China. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank with a mission to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia. It is established by the AIIB Articles of Agreement (entered into force 25th December 2015) which is a multilateral treaty. India joined AIIB in 2016 as a regional member of the Bank. Recently, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a $750 million loan to India to strengthen the country’s battle against the adverse impact of Covid-19 pandemic on poor and vulnerable households.

Galwan river. Recently, India and China got engaged in a standoff at least four points along the LAC, including Pangong Tso lake, Demchok and Galwan river valley in Ladakh and Nathu La in Sikkim. Galwan River has its source in Aksai Chin, on China’s side of the LAC, and it flows from the east to Ladakh, where it meets the Shyok river on India’s side of the LAC.
