Under Swachh Survekshan 2019 Indore is India’s cleanest city for the third consecutive year, followed by Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) and Mysuru (Karnataka) which are ranked second and third this year, respectively. Swachh Survekshan 2019 is a pan India cleanliness survey that covered a total of 4,237 towns and cities and was conducted between January 4 to 31.

Pune, Maharashtra. The Africa-India Field Training Exercise-2019 called AFINDEX-19 started at Aundh Military Station, Pune. India and contingents of the 17 African Nations i.e. Benin, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe are participating in the exercise. The aim of the exercise is to practice the participating nations in planning and conduct of Humanitarian Mine Assistance and Peacekeeping Operations.

Karnataka. The Bannerghatta National Park is located near Bangalore in Karnataka. The Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) Expert Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF), has recommended the reduction of nearly 100 sq. km in the ESZ of Bannerghatta National Park. ESZ provides a regulated buffer zone around protected areas. The fear is that this reduction would lead to more quarrying in the area. However, there is a Supreme Court ruling prohibiting quarrying and mining activities within 1km of protected areas irrespective of the ESZ distance.
