The pipeline was built with the aim of transporting natural gas from Russia to Europe, bypassing traditional transit countries such as Ukraine. The first line of the Nord Stream pipeline was completed in 2011 and the second in 2012, and it has since become a major source of natural gas for Europe.

Turkey, India, under ‘Operation Dost’ sent its planes carrying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, essentials, and medical equipment for the earthquake-hit Turkey. India has also sent a transport aircraft with medical supplies to Syria. The earthquake of magnitude 7.7 on the Richter scale recently hit the two countries followed by a series of aftershocks causing huge devastation. Operation Dost symbolises that India is a friend of Turkey and the two must deepen their relations.
