About PM JANMAN Scheme
- Launch: PM JANMAN was launched on 15th November 2023, a day also celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.
- This initiative augments the Pradhan Mantri-PVTG Development Mission announced in India’s 2022-23 Union Budget.
- Objective: The objective of the scheme is to enhance the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by providing comprehensive development interventions.
- Beneficiaries: The scheme targets 75 PVTG communities across 18 states and 1 Union Territory (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) as its beneficiaries.
- Nodal Ministry: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is the nodal ministry responsible for the implementation of the scheme in collaboration with 9-line Ministries/ Departments, and the respective state governments.
- Budgetary Outlay: The total budgetary outlay for the scheme is Rs 24,104 crore, with the central share amounting to Rs 15,336 crore and the state share being Rs 8,768 crore.
- Coverage Period: The coverage period for the scheme extends from 2023-24 to 2025-26.
- Focus Areas: The scheme focuses on 11 critical interventions across various sectors, including housing, drinking water, healthcare, education, nutrition, livelihood, and electrification, to improve the quality of life for PVTGs.

- New Solar Power Scheme:
- Objective: The objective is to provide electrification to PVTG areas where grid electricity is not feasible, using renewable solar energy solutions.
- Components:
- Solar Home Lighting System (SHLS): SHLS will be installed free of cost in scattered un-electrified households in PVTG areas, with necessary appliances and 5 years of maintenance.
- Solar Mini Grids: Solar mini-grids will be set up for clustered households in PVTG areas, providing appliances like LED bulbs and fans, with CFA support of ₹50,000 per household.
- Solarisation of Multi-Purpose Centers (MPC): Off-grid solar power packs will be installed at MPCs without grid access, with CFA support of ₹1 lakh per center to cover the entire system cost.
- Budget: The total budget for the initiative is Rs 515 crore, which will cover the installation of SHLS, solar mini-grids, and solarisation of MPCs in PVTG areas.

- Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched a nationwide IEC campaign (in August-September 2024) to ensure the saturation of government schemes in PVTG-majority areas.
- This campaign aimed to reach 44.6 lakh individuals (10.7 lakh households) in 28,700 habitations across 194 districts in India.
- The campaign's primary goal is to increase awareness about government schemes, address challenges like distance and digital connectivity, and ensure PVTG families receive necessary documents, such as Aadhar Cards, Caste Certificates, and Jan Dhan bank accounts.
- Infrastructure Development: A total of 226,064 pucca houses will be provided (19,788 completed), 578 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) deployed for healthcare, 290,676 tap water connections installed, 2,746.17 km of roads constructed for improved connectivity, and 123,530 unelectrified households will receive power connections.
- Solar Power: 5,067 households have been sanctioned under the New Solar Power Scheme for electrification.
