Social Media & Civil Servants

Social Media platforms, the new podium of modern-day Civil Servants to paint a picture of themselves which fits appropriately to the society's image of “An Idle Officer”.

It has been observed that the new age officers have been using the social media platforms for personal fame and showcase of lifestyle rather than utilizing it for the society’s welfare. Many Civil Servants who are actually corrupt and incompetent are viewed as Honest & Crusader in the eyes of society.

Some policemen want to instill fear in the public to make anti-social elements shudder at their name. For this, they showcase incidents such as Powers of Police Force, Punishment Parade of arrested convicts on social media, which often leads to generation of a collective fear in the mind of society with the name of “Police”.

Many IAS & IPS officers are running/ promoting their so called “Fan Pages” for gaining mass attention and increasing followers. Few of them are also hiring professional cameramen and social media managers who run and administer their accounts.

Do you think that personal accounts of civil servants should be regulated?
