Balancing Duty and Self Preservation | 22 Feb 2023
You are an IPS officer who has been assigned to investigate a case of corruption within the government. The main suspect is a prominent and influential politician, who has been accused of misusing his power and embezzling public funds.
This is a highly sensitive and political case. The politician has a lot of influence in the government and the police force and has a reputation for intimidating and threatening those who try to investigate him.
On one hand, it is your duty to thoroughly investigate the case and bring the truth to light, regardless of the political implications; on the other hand, if you proceed with the investigation, you may face retaliation from the politician and his allies. You may be transferred to a remote location too. Your actions will impact your family and career.
What would you do in such a condition and what are the ethical considerations you should take into account when making this decision?
