Sunil Chhetri, the Indian football captain, has announced his retirement from international football after playing his last match against Kuwait on 6 June 2024.

• He is currently 3^rd among active players in terms of goals scored, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He also ranks 4^th on the all-time list of international goal-scorers.
